Question:
I am in the market for a classically designed, trailerable sailboat in the
: size range of 18-25 feet. Can you suggest any specific type of boats so
: that my search might be narrowed dow?. The design in important.
Let me see, you want a classic wooden boat, up to 25 feet,
trailerable.
Frankly, I'm pretty sure that no production boat of the last 25 years
matches that description.
What boats come at all close for you?
Answer:
I think you need to specify your needs in more detail, so the net can
help you narrow your search. In particular where would you sail, how
long, how many people, what level of comfort do (they) require/desire?
You know, stuff like that.
I have a modified swampscott dory. It's 19' overall, uses a Blue Jay sail
rig (including spinaker!). Built out of 1/2 plywood, I'd guess it weighs
650# Easily trailerable, it also rows very well. I just got a second set
of oar locks, enabling double pullers. Should really go under 4 oars. It
sails quite well with the more modern rig, although you have to pay
attention in a breeze. It used to have an outboard hole but I took it
out. In the way. It's for sale. I want a Ostac Tramp or the like.
