Question:
I have an AMF Puffer 14 foot dry sailer that I have had for over 20
years. I have a problem I do not know how to fix and I hope someone
here can tell me how.
The boat has been sitting for several years. There is some dings in
the hull where the fibers of the fiberglass can be seen. This I can
patch.
When I lift the boat up at either end I can here what sounds like sand
between the inner and outer hull. I am thinking it is the old
floatation material (foam?) that has degraded. The boat seams heavier
than what I remember. Yes, I did pull the plug and it is not water.
How do I attack this? Do I have to cut a hole in the inner hull to get
at this area? If so what material is out there to replace the foam in
between the hulls. I am assuming that there is foam there.
Answer:
you can also try laying a powerful light on the hull and see if it shows
any suspicious voids between the fibreglass skins. if so a test hole could
be drilled through one skin. no idea how to do a repair if repair is
called for.
