Question:
I'm new to this list and I was wondering if anyone has heard anything good
or bad about this boat or Sunbirds in general. I heard bad things until they
were bought by OMC. Apparently they cleaned up after that. I bought one about
2 months ago and am having problems with it. Here is the list, do these sound
normal for a Brand new boat? The motor is a 90hp Johnson.
1) Gel coat cracks in various places.
2) Dead batteries (happened after sitting for a week)
When I take them out to charge them(weekly) they
seem to be almost dead each time.
3) Trolling motor has a bad footswitch, OMC says the part is back
ordered until October. The dealer (Florida Marina in
Pasadena, Md) says they can't help and I just have to wait!
4) Blown motor fuse from water splash from a wave runner
5) Rust around cleats and screws
6) various stripped screws unable to be tightened
Any help or comments from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Are these
typical problems with a new boat?

A while back, OMC purchased Stratos (Tennesee bass & fish/ski boat maker).
One thing that really bugged me was their inflexibility about using other
brands of outboard motors on their boats. I am not a big fan of
Evinrude/Johnson. Does anyone have any opinion of whether or not Stratos'
quality has dipped since the purchase? They used to make some really
nice hulls.
