How to make/macrame/whip sailboat steering wheel cover?

Question:
How to make/macrame/whip sailboat steering wheel cover?

I would like to cover the steel steering wheel on my Hunter 30'.

My preference is to macrame line on the wheel and spokes.

I've done some searching on the net for instructions, but I haven't found any.

Answer:
Two very simple variations:

One with a straight ridge on the outside edge of the wheel is to use two ropes, and tie overhand knots in opposite directions, changing rope every second turn.

The other makes a spiral, and is just a single rope tied with overhand knots in the same direction allthe way.

For both, tighten up each knot backward, against the tying direction.

Of course, "Ashley's book of Knots" is the ultimat bible on the subject
