Question:
I am buying an older pontoon boat that will need the deck replaced either
this fall or the next.
I looked at a newer pontoon boat and saw what looked like white commercial
carpeting on the deck. On closer inspection it turned out to be a molded
vinyl (or other flexible plastic) product that resembles short loop carpet.
It had no pores for water to get through so I thought it might make an ideal
covering for when I replace the deck.
QUESTION #1: Where can I find this stuff (local in southern Ohio, within
driving distance of Chillicothe, Ohio, or even mail order) and what is it
called so I know what to ask for.
QUESTION #2: Since I have the option of using marine, treated, or outdoor
plywood, what is the pros and cons of each?
QUESTION #3: What do I need to do to make the plywood last as long as
possible?
QUESTION #4: Is there a good web site link that might be helpful?
Answer:
West Marine carries the Vinyl flooring. Couple of other companies also, can
not remember the name at the moment. Put it over pressure treated ply from
Home Depot and you will be set for 10 - 12 years.
