Question:
I just got one of Creek Companies new pontoon boats that fits into its own
backpack. It is 38lbs and is within my airlines size limits for baggage. I
am considering taking it with me on my vacation to Florida next month. Has
anyone used a pontoon boat for fishing the flats in the Keys or maybe the
Everglades? Let me know what you think?
Answer:
-You gotta have a boat to fish the Everglades, at least from Everglades
City/Chokoluskee. It's about three miles down the passes to the outside
flats, and what's worse, the tides run maybe 6 knots in and out. Of course
if you time it right, the tide will take you right out and then bring you
back, but I wouldn't want to mess up or you'll find yourself mosquito bait.
Lots of people take canoes and sea kayaks, but they move lots better than an
inflatable pontoon boat.
-I'm not sure but he may be talking about thsoe aluminum pontoon boats.
Lots of people use them in my area, very popular with rental companies.
Anything is better than fishing from the shore, go for it. You'll have
a blast just looking at all the critters.
If you're considering owning one, I would advise against it.. the pontoons
get holey after a few years in salt water. Electrolysys I think it's called
and it's expensive to replace pontoons. IMHO a johnboat is the perfect florida
inshore boat. You get a lot more for your buck than any other boat.
- I have recently looked into staying near
Titusville and fishing the Indian River. Any opinions on whether the pontoon
boat would work there would be appreciated.
