a few fishing pictures, and one boat on the rocks, what do you think about?

Question:
I finally got around to puttin together a website. I have posted a few fishing pictures from the Potomac River and a local lake. Also a few fishing links.

The link is here: http://users.starpower.net/kandr1/index.html what do you think about?

Answer:
-And for you other folks that was building an underwater camera, he's got the directions for making one on his site!

-, that boat on the rocks! I put a 16'8" Champion about that high and dry on a sandbar in the Mississippi at the Quincy Pool. Water had dropped where we had been running for several days. Not a lot of fun to drag that deep V hull to deeper water.

` -He was laying down in the boat when we passed, and I asked if he wanted help. He said he was going to wait for the tide to come back up. It had not even finished going down, and it was getting late.

If you notice in the picture their are spots in the water to the left of his boat. That area has old pier pilings going out into the river several hundred feet. During high tide they are under water and can't be seen. During low tide everyone fishes them! ;)

Most of the new boaters on the Potomac River think you can drive anywhere you want... but this river is filled with hidden dangers like this one.

I waited till he laid back down to snap the picture.... didn't want to hurt his feelings.

One thing i don't understand is why he didn't just get out and push the boat back into the water... it is about 12 feet deep on both sides of the rocks and the boat is aluminum so it could not be that heavy?

-The Potomac river is tidal, and i have no idea if he put it on the rocks under power, or was fishing and just got stuck? He didn't seem like he was in the mood to explain when i sked if he needed help.

I was fishing that area one day when a pleasure boat came roaring right over the pilings that wher only inches under the water. I could not believe he missed them. I tried to wave him off, but he just kept on coming. I geuss he will never know how lucky he was that day.

-All this talk reminded me of a night on Lake Michigan out of Milwaukee. About 25 years ago I was trolling for Trout/Salmon with a guy I worked with, in his boat. We were done for the evening, he was taking in all the rods and putting equipment away and I was driving. When he had all the tackle and riggers up he told me to speed up. Now, I don't have good night vision and I told him so and stayed at a little over trolling speed as we were not far from the breakwall. A minute of so later, a 24/26 footer went flying past us. I remarked to my partner, "I sure hope he knows where the breakwall opening is."

We proceeded into the marina and put the boat on the trailer and as we pulled into the shakedown area an ambulance came flying up and the MIlwaukee police boat arrived at the pier. The ambulance guys took box after box onto the boat and it zoomed away with its lights flashing. It disappeared out side the breakwall and my buddy and I grabbed a few beers and sat down to wait and see what would happen. About 45 minutes and a few brews latter the boat came zipping up to the pier. They unloaded three guys wearing enough bandages to make several mummies out of. They bundled them into the ambulance and it sped off. We walked over to talk to the police boat operator as he gassed up before leaving.

The guys were pulled off of a 24/26 footer that had hit the rocky breakwater. The cop said he had never seen anything like it. The driver went clean through the windshield, breaking the wheel of as he flew into the rocks in front of the boat. The right hand passenger broke through the cabin bulkhead with his head and shoulders. The guy in the middle got the least damage, he went through the entryway door, breaking it in two and rode a table into the cushioned seat.

The cop was black and mentioned something about stupid getto dwellers stealing boats. We latter found out that three black guys, with no knowledge of boating, had stolen the boat.

The picture in the paper the next morning showed the wreck. All that was in the water was about a foot of transom, it was a 26 footer and the rest was on the rocks which came out of the water at about a 60 degree angle!!!
