Question:
What is a good "trailerable" fishing boat for Offshore (North Carolina)
fishing? I've seen some older Chris Craft Catalina's and an Imperial Cuddy.
I would like to find something I could put a fighting chair on. I want to
be able to use it for yellowtin tuna fishing and need to be safe and also
need to trialer it home.
Answer:
-Your own home state makes one of the best ones out there...Grady
White...built in Greenville, NC. If you can obtain a trailer permit that
allows it, buy the 23' gulfstream with a 9'3" beam. You'll need the extra
width if you're putting in a fighting chair.
-Have you thought about Shamrock. They made, and maybe still do, some cuddys 22
to 26 ft and you might even find one with a B series Cummins diesel for
economy.
-Most of the trailerable boats for fishing here (Wrightsville
Beach/Wilmington) are center consoles and walkarounds with outboard
power. There's not much room in either for a fighting chair. I
suggest you go to the Civic Center boat show in Raleigh on the first
weekend in February. You'll get a good idea of what's available in
trailerable saltwater boats.
