Question:
Manitou Pontoon Boat problem?
We consider to get us a Pontoon or a Deck Boat, instead of our good
old familiy boat. I never saw anyone getting pulled on skier behind a
boat like that. Is it possible and enjoyable? What problems could come
up? Also, will a 95 hp motor make a boat like that fast enough?
Answer:
- You might make it, on two skis, make that two wide skis for hefty men.
I've had large guys on the boom at 20 MPH on the older wide plywood
combos, I have to believe that party barges will do 20 MPH with a 95 HP
o/b.
- You might ski behind a pontoon with two skies, but I would not think this
would be the thing to do. You would be pushing it with a 90 hp. If you want
to ski and have a pontoon too, go for the deckboat. Pontoons are not really
designed for pulling skiers or high speeds. I think you would structurally
hurt the pontoon using it like that
- Depends on the pontoon boat! Saw one on the long weekend
zipping along well over 30 mph! I think it had 90 or 100
- Waterski Magazine included a pontoon in their ski boat buyer's guide
a year or two ago. (Maybe that's why everyone ignores it ). It
was considered strictly a recreational pull, but was capable of
pulling slalom. If you get one, I'm sure you'll want to select a motor
with maximum power rating for it if you plan to pull anything beyond
small kids.
