Question:
info abt Mako Fishing Boat?
I plan on purchasing a boat to fish Sandy Hook, Raritan
Bay, Shrewsbury River, possibly Abrose Light and possibly
The Mudhole. I'm a freshwater fishing convert and I know
my 16 foot aluminum won't cut it. My monetary limit is
around 10k so it will abvously be a used boat. Boats I
am considering are like a 18-20 center console or
walkaround and I am leaning towards Grady White or Mako.
Do these boats seem appropriate for the waters I
listed?
Answer:
- If 10K is your limit, check out the Cobia WA series. Nice boat for the buck
but there's not a great deal of late model used ones on the market. Sunbird
(OMC) made a great 23 ft WA ( Sunbird Neptune ) from 95 to 97. I had one for
a year, passed to me by my Dad. Great boat. Stable, roomy and a pleasure to
fish from. We took quite a few Stripers off Hull, MA in that boat. All the
Neptune WA series boats are solid buys.
Carolina Skiff makes a nice center console. I have fished from a few of
these in flats but never in open water. The Carolina's I have been on tended
to roll a great deal in just a moderate channel wake. As for the Mako and
Grady ( as with Whalers ), these tend to hold a great deal of resale value.
For the size you want, I doubt you'll find a Mako or Grady under 10 years
old in your price range up here in Yankeeville, but you can always try!
- Where will you be fishing out of?
- I wouldn't want to take frieghter wakes which are common in the
waters I'll be in on a Carolina Skiff! Just in general it would be
slap city!
I've seen several in the $10k range that are late 80's early 90's
and that's pretty much what I am looking for. I am more concerned
about the boats ability in the waters I mentioned.
