Question:
Fishing Boat Dealer story?
If you want to see what you DON'T want in your boat dealer, plus score
a few hard belly laughs in the process, I encourage you to visit my
web pages:

Don't forget to look at all the pictures, they are something.
A discussion of this is going on the Bass Fishing Home Page boats and
motors message board:

Scroll down to subject number 24479, and you're there. It's getting
pretty funny. Your comments there are welcome and appreciated?
Answer:
- I guess that all you can do is laugh. I'm really sorry
about this happening, at least you still have a sense of humor, I
probably would've started whining about how the whole world was out to
get me and now I have to go to work to make more money for some idiot to
take it away from me.
I had a similar, but not nearly as horrible experience 6 years ago. I
just bought a new Tracker TX-17 aluminum rig. About 3 months later I
noticed the hull was pitting. Well, I was putting gas in it and thick
white smoke starts billowing out from the back compartment. Open the
lid and see that the wire on the gas tank is melting, all of the
insulation is already gone and it looks like this hot wire is gonna hit
gas. Out comes the fire extinguisher. Dealer fixes it no questions
asked and no explanation offered. Two weeks later, gassing up before a
tournament, a small amount of gas comes out of the nozzle of the pump
while I'm about to put it in the tank. SPARKS!!! Flames everywhere. I
start screaming for my partner to get the extinguisher, meanwhile I'm
flinging flames everywhere from the gas nozzle, looks like a flame
thrower, I could just picture the gas station exploding. What really
worried me was gas running down the line into my tank, and a really big
explosion. Finally, the fires out and the guy in the store says, "hey,
didn't that same thing happen to you last week?". I feel like an idiot
and leave, going to the dealer instead of the tournament.
Turns out the boat was wired wrong from the manufacturer and will be
rewired for free. Yeah, like I really want this boat. Dealer said he
could get it to arc a spark 4 inches from the hull!!!! I wanted a new
boat in replacement, remember this things only 3 months old and it
wasn't my fault it was wired wrong. That's what was causing the
pitting, stupid thing was grounding out on itself. Well, about 2 months
after that someone from Tracker calls inquiring as to how I like my
purchase. Well, he catches hell on how their most popular boat about
killed me and on and on and on. He says he'll check into it to see what
he can do about getting me a new boat. I guess he wasn't successful
because I never heard from him again.
The dealer has been really cool though, never got a new boat, but
anytime anything went wrong, even if it was my fault, they fixed it for
free, and quick. I guess deep down they knew that I could have had them
by the short hairs if I'd wanted to.
