Question:
mazatlan deep sea fishing ?
I'm planning to spend a week in Mazatlan end of November/earlyl
December. I want to line up a fishing boat with a good captain to go
for bill fish. Looking for recommendations from folks who have fished
there....good boat (twin diesel), mate, and a captain that knows where
to catch fish....that's all I ask.
Answer:
- Try Aries Fleet, which is located at the new marina north of the tourist zone.
Book thru Hotel El Cid Marina. They have newer boats, 28 ft Bertrams and 33 ft
Crystalliners. Should be able to find them through a search engine. We've
fished with them several times and they do a good job.
- Also good are Lighthouse (or Faro) Fleet and Bill Heimpel's Star Fleet, both of
which are at the older harbor well south of the tourist zone. But I think
Aries has more new boats and easier access from the tourist hotel zone.
When we were there the billfish were well offshore so it's worth the money to
charter a fast boat. Lots of old clunkers in some of the fleets and they take
too long to get to the fishing grounds.
