Question:
I would like to plan a trip by boat to Lake Erie for smallmouths. Any info on
best time of year and good charter that is resonably priced? Info on smallmouth fishing in lake Erie Port Clinton area?
Answer:
-check out www.onlakeerie.com The jumper fishing starts in May and the best
time is in September. Anytime in between is pretty good. I prefer the
western basin.
-The fishing on lake erie starts when the water temp. reaches48 and gets better
from there.
in any given year this may vary due to weather conditions. However, Usually any
time from about mid May til the end of June is good after June they are still
catchable but finding them is a problem unless your familiar with the lake.
If you going to take a charter i would recommend August or September and tell
the charter capt. you want to fish in Canadian waters. Give them a call @ Marlu
Marina and Motel, they have about 5-6 charter boats. I know them well, They are
good at what they do, and can suggest a good date to do this.
I have fished Lake Erie for 20+ years but now keep my boat On Lake Michigan and
fish Salmon.
-The Smallie fishin in the Western Basin of Lake Erie ( Canadian side) has
never been better. Season Starts the last Saturday in June and runs until
the end of November. If you are looking for a charter service check my site
I book Walleye & Small Mouth charters for 4 charter boats
http://bakie.hypermart.net . If you just want to come here with your own
boat contact my and I can give you the best spots to fish and a report on
whats happening. We have been catching lots of 6 lb+ Smallies with many
going over 8 lbs. I think you are going to see the next world record Smallie
come out of this area within the next 3 yrs.
