Question:
As the owner of a new (for me) used boat with not much experience in boat
repair and maintenance, I am looking for a very basic but comprehensive
how-to guide, with illustrations etc. The Nigel Calder book, Boatowners
Mechanical and Electrical Manual, looks quite good. Any recommendations on
this or other books?
Answer:
-I recently purchased a new used boat with lower unit problems. If you go to
the http://www.barnesandnoble.com and do a search on your motor you may find a
specific book for your motor. I did a search on Johnson outboards and found a
book which covered the specifics of my motor. It covered the basics of motor
maintenance to detail engine repair.
- what you have listed is a good start. I alwqys recommend Don Casey's
book, This Old Boat. Any of the other Don Casey books. They are somewhat
slanted toward sail boats. Also DIY Boatowner magazine (They are on the Web)
is a good magazine as is This Old Boat Magazine.
-Nigel's book is a great one. I have it at home for nightime reading and I have
a different book on the boat that looks pretty good but I don't know tittle. if
I get to boat in next few days I will let you know
