Question:
I used to have a pair of Boat Rod Holders/Rests, imported from the US by Bob
Carolgees (remember him TisWas, Spit the Dog, etc.). Relevant to UK readers.
They were made from aluminium, clamped to the side of the boat, with a
centre section that pulled out to hold the rod, and then pushed back in to
retain it. Striking, lifted the clasps and released the Rod.
The design was exceptionally good as it could be clamped to the side of the
boat, across the width or depth of those bits along the side of the boat (I
don't know the nautical term).
Unfortunately, I left them behind on my last fishing trip to the Trinity
Broads, Norfolk and have been unable to replace them.
I have searched for an e-mail address for Bob Carolgees, to see if he still
imports them. And have searched the web for a US retailer of the product -
all to no avail. I don't know the manufacturer, either.
Can you help ?
Answer:
Found a site that has something that sounds like what your looking for.
It's a pdf file catalog, but in the upper left hand corner is the rod holder
that sounded like it had some of the features.

They are located in Canada though.
