Question:
I'm a novice fisherman who just started fishing freshwater. Having
some bad luck my first 2 time out, I decided a fishfinder was the
first thing to get for my boat. Since I don't want to drop alot of
money on the first go without at least learning the sonar ropes, I've
been looking at fishfinders around the $125-$150 range. After doing a
long comparison search on the web, it appears that Humminbird's
Piranha 5 has the most features for the $139 it costs at the local
Walmart. Dual beam (53 and 20 degrees), temperature gauge, 600ft
depth, decent resolution, etc....
Before I pull the trigger, can someone please give me some
constructive criticism of this unit? For those Humminbird haters out
there, please only comment if you've actually USED the Piranha 5 or
others in the Piranha family. Doesn't seem to be alot of reviews out
there since this line is apparently pretty new.
Answer:
-Give Garmin or Eagle a hard look before you pull the trigger on that
Humminbird! I've owned them all. Once you decide, check eBay. I have
found new electronics there for roughly 10% less than retail. Paying
shipping vs sales tax is usually a wash.
-So what do you reccommend in the sub $200 range?
-My personal favorite in that price range is the Garmin Fishfinder 160.
