Question:
Does anyone have any advice for me on what kind of low end bass
boat to get? (Less than 5k) This will be my first boat and I would
prefer something that is fairly low maintance and reliable. I am leaning
toward a marine alloy as opposed to fiberglass due to the durability
factor. I fish mainly mid sized rivers (the Potomic) and lakes in Va.
and Md. If anyone has any suggestions I would like to hear them.
I have seen the Bass Tracker Pro 17 with a 25 hp Johnson or Evinrude for
around $5500 fully decked out with raised casting deck and swivel seats.
Does anyone know anything about these boats?
Answer:
-I bought one last summer and so far so good. I only had it in the water for
about 2 months but am quite please with it. It seems to be constructed
well and the 25 horse is more than adequate for that light boat. Support from
the local dealer here in Mass has also been excellent
-if you think a 25 HP motor is more than adequate for a 17 ft. boat
like the Pro 17 , you must like going really slow. I have a Sweet 16 Pro
that weighs at least 100 lbs. less than the Pro 17 (probalbly 200 lbs. less)
with a 40 HP motor. I was told , after I made the decision to get the 40 HP
motor , that you can't even get up to planing speed with a 25 HP motor on
the Sweet 16 Pro. If I was buying a Pro 17 , I would go for at least 40 HP ,
or even 60 HP. If you don't get enough power to even get the boat up to
planing speed , you will be very disappointed.
