Question:
I've just about narrowed by search down to the Bass Cat Boat's Eyra and
Pantera II and ProCraft/Astro's Pro 185. My main concern at this point
is how well they do in rough water. The Bass Cat hulls were redesigned
in 1995 and the ProCraft/Astro in 1996. If any of you have any
experience with any of these models, I'd really appreciate it.
Answer:
-Both are top notch boats. Bass Cat is a fancier boat, but Procraft is
every bit as solid. The Pro series Procraft is one of the smoothest
riding and most dry boats I have been in, including Ranger and Champion.
Good performance as well. Not quite the attention to detail of the
Pantera II, but every bit as well built. Bass Cat is also a great boat,
so you can't go wrong either way.
-that the boat handles rough water like a champ. The storage and seating
are great. I have had a Bass Cat but that was years ago, Bass Cat makes
a fine boat, but I think the ProCraft will give you more for your
money. I have a brand new 96 185 Pro that has 3 hours on the motor. It
is time for me to get a new boat, and it will be another 185 Pro. I am
selling the one I have now for $18,500. That is a heck of a good price
because to buy one like this from a dealer it would cost you $24,000.

-I have a Pantera II and would not trade it for anything. It's a big,
heavy boat (one of the heavyest hulls made) and is great in big, rough
water. It is also very dry. I would talk to someone about the Eyra
though. Heard it's pretty squirrly at speed. You can drive the Bass
Cat with one hand at 70mph.
