Question:
In my search for replacement boat windshields for my bass boat I discovered
that there aren't a lot of options. You can go to the original manufacturer
through a dealer if it is a very recent model, but if its more than a few
years old or the model has changed you can be out of luck.
Cabelas.com has a line of generic replacements, but their selection is very
limited and if they don't have one close to your size you are stuck making
spacers or doing without.
I found a company called ACE Acrylics in Irving, Texas that will make custom
replacements. I am sending my one good windshield to them to duplicate and
return. I would not normally have posted a message like this except in my
search for "replacement boat windshield" I ran across several message boards
where people had posted requests for replacements and stated they could not
even find somebody to make one.
Answer:
- Just got back and noticed more on this thread. In terms of impact
resistance, Polycarbonate is your material choice over Acrylic. In terms of
weathering, the acrylic will do much better.
What is the guy saying minimum radius is that he can form with polycarb?
I know our mock-up guys do some pretty tight radii work building automotive
lamp lens. I can't image the windshield being much different. Main
difference is material thickness. If you'd like me to ask the model shop
guys at work any questions, let me know...
I do know that they buiold wood form blocks, put the sheet stock in an
oven and soften it, then press it between the form blocks. is this how the
guy is doing it, or is he doing it by hand?
