Question:
I just bought a place on a nice 12,000 acre lake. I love to fish
and don't plan on much skiing, but would like a boat such as Stratus Bass Boat
that would still allow about six people to "cruise around" comfortably rather than fish.
I've seen the Four Winns Horizon 18' Fish & Ski and it looks like
it will fit the bill nicely. I would get the 150 FICHT for the reduced
noise level, added fuel economy, and the resale value. The max is
175hp. The dealer recommends the 130.
Are there any other boats out there that would offer the same
features? This boat will run about $19,000. What do you suggest for
the engine size and type?
Answer:
-Have you looked at any of the Glastron Fish & Ski boats? You can find them
at http://www.genmar.com. They appear comparable, although I'm unsure of
the quality. I am very impressed with Crownlines as runabouts (they also
have a fish and ski package, but you need to ask for it). Don't think the
Crownline has outboard option, however.
-I have a 20 ft Fisher fish and ski (fiberglass) with a 200 hp EFI. Seats
seven. Its has a bass boat haul which makes it ideal for fishing. Lots of
deck fore and aft. Great for skiing and pulling other things too,it came
with a ski pylon.
I you want a boat more for fishing look at the companies that make fishing
boats. There are allot of nice combination boats out there. Some names to
look at are Fisher, Nitro, Viper, Ranger, Astro, Stratus , Charger, and a
few others. It all depends on what you want. There are a lot of combination
boats that are ski boats geared toward a little fishing and then there are
those that are fishing boats geared toward a little skiing. You just need to
look around to find the right amount of combination that will suit your
needs . What ever boat you decided on ,take it for a test drive.
